Flowerscapes, A Bug’s Eye View is a beautiful and extraordinary photographic tribute to our wildflowers, captured from a surprising perspective.
Photographer Theo Bosboom has wondered for years what the view would be like from an ant looking up while walking through a flower field, or from a ladybug that has just landed on a flower stem. He has long dreamed of photographing wildflowers from this insect’s perspective! For a long time, this seemed impossible, as ordinary camera equipment was too large and bulky for such shots. But when a long, narrow wide-angle macro lens that can rotate 360 degrees became available on the market, Bosboom suddenly saw the opportunity to turn his dream into reality. “It was as if I received the key that granted access to a wondrous secret world; I felt very privileged!”
This marked the beginning of Bosboom’s personal journey of discovery across numerous flower fields and other places where wildflowers can be found, such as ditches, forests, dunes, and parks, mainly in the Netherlands and sometimes just across the border in Germany or Belgium. He temporarily paused his other projects to dedicate himself fully to the flowerscapes during two springs and summers.
The result is a beautiful photo book, full of unique images! It features images of 50 different species of wild plants, all photographed from the insect’s perspective. Nature journalist Kirsten Dorrestijn has written interesting stories about seven of these species, often revealing surprising facts. At the back of the book, there are 8 practical tips to help people assist wildflowers and insects themselves. The photo book is beautifully designed and printed on high-quality photo paper. It has a fresh and positivelook and feel and will appeal to plant and nature enthusiasts as well as photography and art lovers.
