Theo Bosboom – Back to Iceland
10 years after the publication of his first photo book Iceland pure – which has been sold out for quite some time – Theo Bosboom is bringing out his second photo book about Iceland, with the appropriate title Back to Iceland. Bosboom feels much closer to nature in Iceland than in any other place. ” It is as if I experience nature more intensely here. Iceland gets under my skin, moves me, and overwhelms me. Time and time again “, he wrote back in 2012.
In the meantime, much has changed and happened in his personal life and in his photography career, including prestigious awards at the Silver Camera, Wildlife Photographer of the Year and European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, and numerous publications in National Geographic. Bosboom’s love for Iceland, however, has always remained and has perhaps even become more mature and profound, as he no longer views the island solely through rose-coloured glasses.
Bosboom has now spent more than 14 months there and has visited Iceland at least once every year since 2006. The book Back to Iceland is a beautiful and personal photographic tribute to this rough and photogenic island, with more than 120 photos in Bosboom’s own distinctive style, including many spectacular images of the Fagradalsfjall volcano eruption of 2021. The book also contains a number of personal texts by Bosboom about the rise of mass tourism, the two volcanic eruptions he was able to photograph and Icelandic music, among other things. The beautiful book design is by Sandra Bartocha, as with Shaped by the sea.
